Are you f’in kidding?
So I was in class today, talking about movies and promotion and we got into an area where I mentioned San Diego Comic Con.
“What is Comic Con?” a blissfully ungeeky young woman asked.
I spent some time trying to describe it and had this old man realization – oh yeah, I could just go to Youtube and show her a clip.
That’s what I did and searched San Diego Comic Con crowd because I wanted to show her the throng and mass of people there. The first clip I tried was kind of crappy and not very good.
“Hang on,” I said. “I should get something from 2009, because I was there that year.”
I amended my search, tagging 2009 on the end, and really hoping for a shot of the mass of young women lined up days in advance for the Twilight New Moon event in Hall H.
The first video that came up had a good description – “San Diego Comic Con Exhibit Hall Crowd” so I chose it.
We watched a pretty jerky clip of the action on the floor, that was chaotic enough to show that crush of people.
“Wouldn’t it be funny,” I said, “if there was a shot of me in this?”
And then there was.
I know!
At 15 seconds in I walk into the center of the frame and out the other side.
I don’t even know what to say about this. All the Youtube vids in the world, all of the things I could have searched, all of the people in that thousands in that huge crowd, all of the odds to shoot anything anywhere, and I pick this one. With me in it, two seconds after I say that.
Where’s my lottery ticket?
